Young Oyster Catcher

Young Oyster Catcher

Well camouflaged young Oyster Catcher - an only chick which is unusual as often three chicks survive on the South Coast of Wellington. It’s parents were uncharacteristically happy for me to sit at a 20 metre distance and watch them for over an hour. Oyster Catchers a native to Aotearoa New Zealand and can live to 30 years - unlike most Shorebirds they feed their chicks. 100-400mm cropped.
