Welcome Swallow Feeding Fledgling
This shows a Welcome Swallow parent feeding one of its fledglings whilst on the wing. It shows what superb fliers they are, as they are able to swoop in, hover briefly as they stuff the insects down the open throat of their young and then fly off again. It almost happens too fast to fully appreciate with the naked eye. I was fortunate to be there at the right stage to capture this scene, as once the fledglings leave the nest, it is only a matter of days before they will be following their parents in flight. The photo was taken with an Olympus E-3 camera, with a 300 mm f2.8 lens + 1.4 TC. The camera settings were ISO 400, 1/1600s, f5.6
