Walking the light fantastic

Enjoying a perfect dawn on the southern rim (1,909m) of North Crater, Tongariro National Park, New Zealand. After a sub-zero night in my bivy bag this was ample reward - simply pure delight. The two Spanish companions I was guiding fared slightly better in my 2 man tent. Tongariro National Park is easily accessed - perhaps too easily these days - now the secret is out via the likes of the Lonely Planet guides. But the alpine, volcanic terrain is other worldly. It's become famous for good reason / Nikon P7800, a stitch of 6 portrait shots, F8, 1/30, ISO 100, 28mm
