Tūturuatu or Shore Plover are one of the rarest shorebirds in the world.
Endemic to New Zealand they are found on only a few predator-free Islands in the Chathams and around mainland New Zealand. Globally their population is estimated at only 250 with a conservation status, nationally critical. They are strong fliers and occasionally, birds from Mana island visit Plimmerton in Wellington to forage. They are very susceptible to predation by cats, rats who have contributed to their decline. 70-200mm cropped.
