Tui are one of the largest species in the honey eater family. Their preferred diet is nectar and honeydew, and they will often shift to, and commute over 10km daily to good nectar sources such as Kowhai, Flax, Pohutukawa, Gums and Banksias. Tui play an important role in the dynamics of New Zealand forests because they are the most common pollinators of flowering plants and also disperse seeds of trees with medium sized fruits.
