Young Dabchick receiving a teeny tiny fish from Dad. Dabchick or Weweia are medium-sized aquatic diving birds approximately a third of the size of a Mallard duck. They can change their own buoyancy like a submarine by changing the direct of their feathers. Endemic to New Zealand with a conservation status of recovering with an estimated population of 1900-2000 individuals. 100-400mm cropped.
