Snow flake

Snow flake

Phot by Connull Lang

A macro photo of a snow flake from my back yard. The process of photographing such a tiny delicate subject took a little bit of planning. It takes very specific conditions for snow for fall with this classic snowflake crystal pattern and they are usually only a couple millimeters wide. This was shot against a black tinted piece of glass that was left outside for a day around -20 degrees and was moved into place with a tiny paintbrush, that also had to be pre-chilled. If you even breath near them they will star to melt and lose their patterns
