Taken on the Otago Penninsula - endemic to New Zealand. They are aggressive opportunistic seabirds - scavenge penguin, albatross and whale carrion. They prey on penguin and albatross chicks and also take fish and squid from the sea surface. An estimated 2,570 pairs breed in New Zealand annually before dispersing to temperate and subtropical seas during winter.
