Spotted six Caspian Terns last week at Waikanae beach - most appeared banded and two were fledglings. Native to New Zealand they are the largest of all species of Tern with a wingspan of 1 metre. They have a Conservation status of nationally vulnerable. They remain uncommon in New Zealand with an estimated 1300-400 breeding pairs.
