Black-fronted dotterel

Surprised how small they are at 30-35grams and would have missed this one completely if it wasn’t for its characteristic sharp high pitched peeping as it foraged on the mud flats. Native to Aotearoa New Zealand with a conservation status as naturally uncommon, the total population is fewer than 3,000 Nationally. They retain their striking plumage all year round and remind me of Zorro. 100-400mm cropped.
