The Abduction of Proserpina
This shot portrays The Abduction of Proserpina, also known as The Rape of Proserpina, a large Baroque marble sculptural group by Italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini. He executed it between 1621 and 1622 when he was only 23 years old. It depicts Proserpina, as she is seized and taken to the underworld by the god Pluto. The perfection of the movement captured and carved out from the hard marble is astonishing and the absolute look-real sinking of Pluto's fingers in the poor woman's flesh is mind-boggling. The Galleria Borghese, in the beautiful park of Villa Borghese, in the center of Rome, is a must-visit place, rich in art and beauty
