Reef Heron or Matuku Moana

Allusive Reef Heron or Matuku Moana are Native to New Zealand. I’ve been hoping to photograph this local Heron on the South Coast of Wellington for two years. Finally spotted it chilling in Owhiro Bay this morning. These are massive crops as approx 100metres away which on my 100-400mm 5.6 was a stretch as it’s well camouflaged amongst the rocks. According to NZ Birds they have a conservation status of Nationally endangered with only 300-500 birds in New Zealand remaining.
