This female and young Oyster Catcher were relaxing in the sun popping their heads up excitedly when they heard the characteristic call of her mate returning with a tasty mussel for their chick. Oyster Catchers are one of the few shore birds that feed their chicks. I’ll post the image I took of the male returning with a mussel tomorrow. I stuffed up my settings for the chick swallowing the mussel but might still post it. Ive watched this heavily protective pair for a few times now and one parent always stays near this chick while the other forages - sometimes for over an hour. 100-400mm cropped.
