Dabchick

Love the sense of scale and drama in this shot of the adult male Dabchick as it captures and wrestles with this Green and Gold Bell Frog Tadpole. They can dive up to 30 seconds foraging for food. Dabchick or Weweia are a medium-sized aquatic diving bird endemic to Aotearoa New Zealand with a conservation status of recovering and an estimated population of 1900-2000 individuals. Weighing in at 230-700 grams and a length of 28-30cms. 100-400mm cropped.
